Ingredients
  

  • 1 slice sturdy bread (sourdough, multigrain, or whole wheat)
  • 1/2 medium (60 g) ripe avocado
  • 1/2 tsp fresh lemon or lime juice
  • 1 pinch coarse sea salt (Maldon or flaky recommended)
  • 1 pinch freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Toast the bread until golden brown and crisp. A sturdy, well-toasted slice provides the best base for toppings.
  • Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Mash with a fork until creamy but still slightly chunky.
  • Stir in lemon or lime juice, salt, and pepper. Mix to combine evenly.
  • Spread the seasoned avocado over the toasted bread. Use this master base as-is or try one of the five variations below.
  • Top with Everything Bagel Seasoning, red pepper flakes, and a drizzle of Sriracha. Optional: add thinly sliced red onion or radish.
  • Top with cherry tomato halves, crumbled feta, dried oregano, and a drizzle of olive oil.
  • Top with smoked salmon, capers, and chopped dill. Optional: spread a thin layer of cream cheese before the avocado.
  • Add sliced mozzarella, fresh basil, and drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  • Top with a fried or poached egg, red pepper flakes, and chives. Break the yolk before eating for a rich finish.

Notes

For best results, use ripe avocados and toast sturdy bread until very crisp. Always add a touch of lemon or lime juice to preserve color and enhance flavor. Each variation is designed for one slice but can be easily scaled up for multiple servings.
