  • Spoon or spatula
  • Airtight storage container
  • Gloves (optional, for mixing)

Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

  • 2 cups coarse sea salt
  • 1 –2 tsp blue spirulina powder or butterfly pea flower powder
  • 1 tsp dried herbs thyme, rosemary, or oregano

Optional Flavor Boosters:

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp citric acid
  • Pinch of black pepper

Instructions

Mix Base Ingredients:

  • In a large bowl, combine sea salt with spirulina powder. Start with 1 tsp of spirulina and gradually add more until your desired shade of blue is achieved. Mix thoroughly.

Add Seasonings:

  • Add dried herbs and any optional boosters like garlic powder, citric acid, or pepper. Use your hands or a spoon to mix evenly. The mixture should smell fragrant and look evenly colored.

Taste Test:

  • Test a small amount on a cracker or bread. Adjust seasoning as needed.

Store:

  • Transfer to an airtight container and store in a cool, dark place. The blue salt keeps for up to 6 months.

Use:

  • Sprinkle over dishes just before serving or during final minutes of cooking to maintain color and flavor.

Notes

Use only food-grade spirulina or butterfly pea powder.
Avoid fresh herbs as they add moisture and cause clumping.
For a smoky twist, add smoked paprika or chipotle powder.
For desserts, reduce herbs and add a hint of vanilla.
