  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.75 cups buttermilk
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon Swirl

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cups brown sugar

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  • In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients until mixed.
  • In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Pour half the batter into the pan. Sprinkle half the cinnamon mixture on top. Add the remaining batter, then top with the rest of the cinnamon mixture.
  • Swirl the batter gently with a fork.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool before serving.

Notes

This cake is delightful on its own or with a dollop of whipped cream on top. It can also be served with vanilla ice cream for an extra special treat. Store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze individual slices wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.
