Ingredients
  

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour Can swap for whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder Can substitute with carob powder for variety
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional Add-ins

  • Chocolate chips Fold in for extra sweetness

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until well combined.
  • If desired, fold in chocolate chips for extra sweetness.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set, and the centers look slightly underbaked.
  • Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. For long-term storage, freeze cookies, placing parchment paper between layers, for up to three months.
