  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs Beat in one at a time.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix-ins

  • 1 cup chocolate chips You can swap with white chocolate.
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, chopped Consider using dried cherries as a substitute.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the butter mixture.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped maraschino cherries.
  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden.
  • Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies are best served warm with a glass of cold milk or warm cocoa. Store in an airtight container at room temperature; can be frozen for up to 3 months.
