Ingredients
  

  • 1 bag (30 oz) frozen shredded hash browns, thawed and drained
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 0.25 cup butter, melted (for filling)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 cups cornflakes, crushed
  • 0.25 cup butter, melted (for topping)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.
  • In a large bowl, combine thawed hash browns, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, 1/4 cup melted butter, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well until fully combined.
  • Spread the potato mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Press down gently but do not compact too much.
  • In a small bowl, combine crushed cornflakes with 1/4 cup melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the casserole to cover the surface.
  • Bake uncovered for 45–60 minutes until the topping is golden brown and edges are bubbling.
  • Let rest 5 minutes before serving. Scoop and enjoy warm.

Notes

Variations include loaded (with bacon, jalapeños, and green onions), deluxe (with cream cheese and extra layers of cheddar), or international twists like Mexican-inspired pepper jack and chiles. For topping alternatives, try Ritz crackers, French fried onions, panko, or potato chips. Best reheated in the oven to restore crispiness.
