Ingredients
  

Basic Glaze Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Optional Add-ins:

  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon rum or bourbon
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • Chopped nuts for topping
  • Orange or lemon zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Mini chocolate chips for topping

Instructions
 

  • Prepare your base - In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter completely.
  • Add sugar and milk - Stir in brown sugar and milk, continuously stirring until the sugar fully dissolves (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Flavor your glaze - Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt. Add any additional flavorings if desired.
  • Cool slightly - Let the glaze cool for 2-3 minutes until it slightly thickens but remains pourable.
  • Apply to banana bread - Place the banana bread on a wire rack and pour the warm glaze over the top, letting it drip down the sides.
  • Set the glaze - Allow the glaze to set for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
  • Storage tips - Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Serving Size: 1 serving (based on 8 servings per recipe)

Notes

For a thicker frosting-like glaze, add 1/2 cup powdered sugar.
For a maple variation, replace half the brown sugar with maple syrup.
To create a spiked version, add 1 tablespoon rum or bourbon.
