Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 4 cups green beans (canned, frozen, or blanched fresh)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole preferred)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions (divided)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 baking dish. Drain green beans and pat dry.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth. Add green beans and half the fried onions, stirring to combine.
  • Pour mixture into prepared dish, spreading evenly. Top with remaining fried onions.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and topping is golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Drain beans well to avoid a watery casserole. Make up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerate before baking. Swap toppings with bacon, cheese, or fried shallots for variations. Use fresh green beans (blanched) for extra color and texture.
