Ingredients

For the cookies

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heart-shaped sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a small bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt until creamy.
  • Add in the vanilla extract and eggs; beat until well combined.
  • Gradually beat in the flour mixture until just combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips and heart-shaped sprinkles if using.

Baking

  • Roll the dough into balls and shape them into heart shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Make sure your butter is softened, not melted, for the best texture. Don’t overmix the dough after adding the flour; it should be just combined. For a fun twist, try adding nuts or dried fruit along with the chocolate chips. Use quality chocolate chips for a rich flavor.
