Ingredients
  

For the Base:

  • 1 pound pasta penne or rotini
  • 2 jars 24 oz each marinara sauce
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

For the Pizza Layer:

  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 1 bell pepper diced
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 8 oz sliced mushrooms optional
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1 cup pepperoni slices
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Prep Everything:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Cook pasta to al dente, drain and set aside.
  • Brown sausage in a skillet. Halfway through, add bell pepper, onion, mushrooms. Cook until soft. Drain excess fat.

Create the Base Layer:

  • In a bowl, mix ricotta, eggs, Italian seasoning, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Toss cooked pasta with 1 jar of marinara.
  • Spread half the pasta in a 9x13 casserole dish.
  • Dollop half of the ricotta mix over it.

Build the Casserole:

  • Add sausage/veggie mixture over ricotta.
  • Sprinkle 1 cup mozzarella.
  • Layer remaining pasta and second jar of sauce.
  • Add remaining ricotta.
  • Top with remaining mozzarella, parmesan, pepperoni, and olives.

Bake:

  • Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake an additional 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  • Rest for 10 minutes, garnish with basil, and serve.

Notes

Make-Ahead Tip: Assemble up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerate.
Freezer Friendly: Freeze assembled or baked casserole for up to 3 months.
Gluten-Free Option: Use gluten-free pasta.
Vegetarian Option: Omit sausage and pepperoni, add extra vegetables.
