Homemade Italian Herbs and Cheese Bread

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded monterey jack cheese
  • 1 large egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Instructions
 

  • Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl; let bloom for 10 minutes until foamy.
  • Incorporate olive oil and salt into the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually add bread flour, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down dough and shape into a long loaf; place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Cover and let rise for an additional 40 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush the loaf with egg wash, then sprinkle evenly with Italian seasoning, parmesan, and shredded cheese.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the crust is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
