Brownie Base

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest Freshly grated
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice Freshly squeezed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar, stirring until well combined.
  • Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool before cutting into squares. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.

Notes

Use fresh lemons for the best flavor. Don’t overmix the batter; this keeps them tender. These brownies can be served warm or chilled.
