Ingredients
  

Bars

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is softened for easy mixing.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk You can substitute with milk mixed with vinegar or lemon juice.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or cream Adjust consistency as needed.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a 9x13 pan with parchment.
  • Beat butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add in eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add this to the wet mixture and mix until smooth.

Baking

  • Spread the batter in the lined pan and bake for 22–28 minutes or until golden.
  • While the bars cool, combine powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, and milk to form the glaze.
  • Spread the glaze over the warm bars. Allow to cool completely, slice, and serve.

Notes

These bars are delightful on their own but can be served with fresh fruit or whipped cream. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
