Equipment

  • Grill or grill pan
  • Mixing bowl
  • Non-stick skillet (optional)
  • Air fryer (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup shredded aged cheddar cheese
  • 1 ripe avocado sliced
  • 1/4 cup Vidalia onions diced
  • 1/4 cup red and yellow peppers diced
  • Fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 lime juiced
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper optional, for heat
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Burger buns lightly toasted

Instructions

Prepare the Patty:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, panko bread crumbs, diced onions, diced peppers, chopped cilantro, shredded cheddar cheese, and seasonings (chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper). Mix gently to combine without overworking the meat.

Shape the Patties:

  • Divide the mixture into six portions and shape each into a 1/2-inch thick patty. Place patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and chill for 30 minutes.

Cook the Patties:

  • Grill: Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Grill patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.

Stovetop:

  • Heat a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side.

Air Fryer:

  • Preheat air fryer to 375°F and cook patties for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Prepare Avocado Spread:

  • In a small bowl, mash avocado with lime juice, sour cream, garlic, and hot pepper sauce until creamy and smooth.

Assemble the Burger:

  • Place cooked patties on toasted buns. Top with avocado spread, fresh pico de gallo, additional cheese (optional), and serve warm.
