Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix Use any preferred brand.
  • 1 cup water Or as directed on the box.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Or as directed on the box.
  • 3 large eggs Or as directed on the box.

For the Filling and Topping

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup peppermint extract
  • 8 oz whipped topping For topping.
  • Crushed peppermint candies For garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation and Baking

  • Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs until well combined.
  • Pour into the prepared baking dish and bake as directed.
  • Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10-15 minutes.

Poking and Soaking

  • Use the end of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the surface of the cake.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract.
  • Pour this mixture evenly over the poked cake, making sure it gets into the holes.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely, then spread the whipped topping over the top.
  • Garnish with crushed peppermint candies.

Chilling

  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Make sure to grease and flour the baking dish well. Poke holes evenly for better flavor distribution. Allow the cake to cool completely before topping.
