Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf

Ingredients
  

Meatloaf Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs You can use crushed crackers or oats as substitutes.
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Vegetables

  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced For a spicier kick, add some chopped jalapeños.
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing.

Cheese

  • 8 slices provolone cheese 4 for filling, 4 for topping. Can swap with mozzarella or other cheeses.

Garnish

  • to taste Fresh parsley, chopped Garnish if desired.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté peppers and onions for 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Assembly

  • Press half the meat mixture into the bottom of a loaf pan.
  • Layer 4 slices of provolone over the meat, then add the sautéed peppers and onions.
  • Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing to seal the edges.

Baking

  • Bake for 45-50 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone on top and bake until melted.
  • Rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

This meatloaf pairs well with mashed potatoes or a simple salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze portions for later.
