  • 3-4 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 pieces onions, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth use low-sodium for a healthier version
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (optional) experiment with different types for unique flavors
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar can be replaced with maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon paprika can add chipotle for a smoky flavor
  • to taste salt and pepper

Preparation

  • Season the brisket with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • In a slow cooker, layer the sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom.
  • Place the brisket on top of the onions.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the beef broth, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Pour this mixture over the brisket.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the meat is tender.
  • Once cooked, remove the brisket, slice it against the grain, and serve with the onions and cooking liquid.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days, or freeze tightly for up to 3 months. Reheat on low heat with beef broth for moisture. Always slice against the grain.
