For the Dough:
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast or 1 packet
- 1 cup warm water around 110°F
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour
For the Filling:
- 8 oz sliced provolone cheese
- 6 oz thinly sliced ham
- 6 oz sliced pepperoni
- 1/2 cup chopped roasted red peppers
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 clove garlic minced (or 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
For the Topping:
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp grated parmesan
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Optional: sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning
Make the Dough (if not using store-bought):
Combine warm water, yeast and sugar in a bowl. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add olive oil, salt, and 2 cups flour. Mix well.
Gradually add the remaining flour until a slightly sticky dough forms.
Knead on floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place in oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes in a warm place.
Assemble the Stromboli:
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll dough into a 12x16 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
Layer provolone cheese, ham, pepperoni, and roasted red peppers.
Top with mozzarella, Italian seasoning, and garlic.
Roll up tightly from the long edge, pinching seam and ends to seal.
Place seam-side down on baking sheet.
Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with parmesan and oregano.
Cut small slits on top for steam to escape.
Bake:
Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and internal temp reaches 165°F.
Let rest 5–10 minutes before slicing.
Serve in slices with warm marinara for dipping.
Store-bought pizza dough is a great shortcut.
Let fillings cool before assembling to avoid sogginess.
