  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or choice of cheese

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sweet maple sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer the cubed bread in the baking dish, then add the cooked sausage and shredded cheese.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread and sausage layers, ensuring even coverage.
  • Cover with foil and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.

Baking

  • Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes or until golden and set.
  • Let cool slightly before serving. Optionally, drizzle with maple syrup or serve with fresh fruit.

Notes

Make this dish the night before for an easy morning. Use any bread you like—white, whole grain, or even brioche. Adjust the seasoning to your taste with herbs or spices. Add cooked vegetables like bell peppers or spinach for extra flavor. Be careful not to overbake; it should be soft and creamy inside.
