Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk Can substitute with almond or soy milk for dairy-free version.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil For frying
  • Powdered sugar For dusting before serving

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, combine milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

Frying

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • Using a spoon or a small cookie scoop, drop batter into the hot oil, frying a few at a time.
  • Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove beignets and let them drain on paper towels.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

For best results, consume your beignets fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a warm oven to restore crispiness.
